Escallonia Wood Hair Fork
Description
This handcrafted hair fork is made from Escallonia wood. It has a very fine smooth finish due to a close grain. The top of the pin reveals distinctive knots and curls with tiny knots continuing down the piece. The wood is a muted tan tone with subtle flecks of lustrous detail.
A native of South America Escallonia is best know to most of us in the U.K. as a beautiful flowering shrub. Occasionally the plant is used to make Bonsai Trees. I've never seen the wood used for anything before and it has surprised me how rewarding it is to work with. It has been made from local wood that would have otherwise been burnt or thrown away.
Measurements:
14.2cm Long

This pin is finished with Nutshell wax. The product is eco friendly and non toxic, blending selected beeswax, Larch oil and essential oils to give your hairpin years of protection. It also uses no VOC's, formaldehyde or petrochemicals.
We are always striving to improve our processes environmentally. Hand tools are used over power tools where possible and sanding etc. is kept to a minimum.
